Shea: Discovery revelations show that Maryland is not “open for business” under Hogan
BALTIMORE, MD (May 2, 2018) – Democratic candidate for governor Jim Shea released the following statement after the Bethesda Beat reported that the Hogan administration had little contact with Discovery Communications before the company’s decision to leave Maryland.
“So much for Hogan’s slogan that Maryland is ‘open for business.’ When you ignore repeated request for a brief phone call with the CEO a major employer, it completely invalidates your claim to be a business-friendly governor. This could have been a key factor in driving Discovery, and its jobs, out of Maryland. It seems like Hogan’s only economic plan is to ‘poach’ companies from other states while he disregards those already in Maryland.”
“On another level, these requests make you wonder: if even prominent CEOs can’t get a meeting with Hogan, then how difficult is it for the rest of his constituents?”
